View From the Front Porch-Stan Hitchcock-November 5, 2012

"I Will lift up my eyes unto the hills, From whence cometh my help, My help cometh from the Lord....."

When the turmoil, hateful sayings, character assassinations and division in our Country is finally brought to a climax tomorrow....and t
he attention is brought back to the people on the East Coast, who, with a new storm coming down on them while they are still crippled from the storm before...and the cameras catch the woman standing with tears running down her face, arms outstretched over her head crying out "Mr. President Obama! Help me...help me..we are hungry...we are thirsty...we are dying!!" Who gives a crap about some dang campaign slogan, some clever cutting remark to try to lure voters to your side, promising anything you can imagine.....

The truth of the matter is this....Your help does not come from some President, some Government agency, some elected official.....No, it comes from the Lord. And the Lord uses the Christian relief agencies, the Churches and the regular people of America who come together and help one another just as they always have. Neighbor helping neighbor, being there for each other, coming together with love and concern. That is the reality of life.

When the catastrophic flood came upon Middle Tennessee and covered downtown Nashville and all the surrounding region....I did not see anyone standing calling for the President to take care of them, I saw them get to work, rebuilding their lives. When the water from our creek came up to the edge of the Front Porch, covering our fields, washing away our fences and isolating us in the old farm house for three days before we could get out...we never once wondered if the Government was gonna take care of us....we know better. Government takes care of the infrastructure, they give protection of the people from the enemies of freedom, they send assistance, they keep the roads clear...but they are not the answer.

I don't know what happens after tomorrow, where the Country goes from here, I only know that this front porch will still be here, just as it has been for families for the past 92 years...through the storms, through the wars, the droughts, the floods, the democrats, the republicans....and whatever comes, the Sun will continue to come over the mountain, shining down on the Sycamores by the creek, finally touching the edge of the porch as I sit, having my coffee and quietly murmuring to myself, "I will lift up my eyes unto the hills, whence cometh my help, my help cometh from the LORD....."

And we'll all live happily ever after.......Stan
