View From The Front Porch-Stan Hitchcock-January 11, 2012

Sitting on the front porch, in January, fresh smell to the air as the rain, which fell all night, has moved away to the North, the early morning sun is shining through the clouds and all is well at the old farm house. Our Deshea Creek is running bank full, making a pleasant whispering sound as it rushes over the limestone rock bottom on it's way to the Cumberland River, just a few miles as the crow flies, or the deer bounds, or the squirrels scamper...or whatever animal or bird symbolism you care to use. It's going to reach a temperature of 72 today, and 75 tomorrow. So, if this is Global Warming, by golly I love it. Middle Tennessee will take all of this kind of winter that we can get. Course, we know that more cold weather is coming right behind this, which is good because it will keep the flowers and trees from budding out too soon and freezing in February.

This is the time of year I always start getting my fishing gear oiled up, line changed and tackle boxes straightened out, because Spring Fishing is just a few more weeks away. I live all year for the Spring Fishing time. It's when I go to Wisconsin, in late May, to fish the Upper Mississippi River, after the Spring thaw and the water level stabilizes. My friend, Chuck Lowrance, travels up with me to fish til we drop in this fishing paradise. It is a tradition that Chuck and I have enjoyed for several years and it is a special time for me. Good Lord willing and the creek don't rise, we'll get to enjoy it again this year. Here are some pictures of our past fishing adventures on the Upper Mississippi.   -Stan
