In Memory of George Jones

Country music mourns the loss of one of its greatest legends today with the passing of George Jones at the age of 81.  As the Oak Ridge Boys tweeted this morning, "We are devastated this morning ... We have lost The Possum... Legend and Friend... RIP George Jones."

From 1959 through the 1980’s, Jones had 14 #1 hits including such standards as “White Lightning” in 1959, “Walk Through This World With Me” in 1967, “Golden Ring” in 1976 and “He Stopped Loving Her Today” in 1980.  Jones continued to have Top 40 albums and charting singles well into the early 2000’s and was still touring until earlier this year.

In 1983, George Jones released the album “Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes” as a tribute to the legends of Country music who had passed into history.  The album went to #6 on the Country charts and the title track went to #3.

George, you will be missed.
