Well, my friends just drove away. What a day we had. I'd tell you all
about it but I don't know if it would get by the censors, however, we
intend to do it every year, as long as God
blesses us with life. Man, we laughed til my sides hurt. Great
friends that shared the music in the golden age of Classic Country.
Both Vic and Bruce played with so many great bands, before and after
our years, Jim Ed Brown, Nat Stuckey, Porter and Dolly, Mel Tillis,
Charlie Louvin...the stories were non stop, and they reminded me of some
of the crazy things that happened with the Stan Hitchcock Show band,
and with the other shows, as we all mingled together, members of the
select society of music as we traveled the country like gypsies, non
stop adventures in the years when we were adventure prone.
Early country music was sure for the young (which of course we were at
the time) cause it wore me out today, just remembering it. These boys
were tougher than nails, back in the 60's and 70's, taking care of me
like linebackers in a football game. Of the 53 years I have been in the
music biz, the 4 years we worked together, was simply the best. Bruce
Osbon, Vic Thomas and Buck Evans, I love you as brothers of the music
road. These boys were the stars of many of the stories in my book, and
in my View From The Front Porch series.
All in all, much food
was consumed, bbq, baked beans, potato wedges, slaw, corn on the cob,
Sweet Tea and Strawberry Cake. The boys have not changed in how much
food they can put away. Uh, yeah, I ate a bite or two myself. I will
try to relate some of the better stories as I go along.
Stan
