I pray tonight for my friend and fellow music
man who is in trouble more than can be imagined, unless you have been
there. Randy Travis is a giant of an entertainer, singer, business man
and all around good guy. His life has spun, somehow, out of control,
causing him pain, anguish and embarrassment. Well, heck, you say, he
did it to himself. Friends, you cannot imagine the mental anguish and
pressure on the other side of fame. When it starts going down hill,
some of us grab for whatever we can grab, the same addiction to the
adreniline rush of being cheered on stage by thousands of voices, all
calling your name and directing their energy totally focused on you, is
the most addictive drug there is and it is your own body and mind.
But, there is a price to pay on the other side of that Glory time. I
don't know what Randy Travis's pain is or what he has tried to deaden it
with....but, I know that I love him as a music brother and a friend of
long standing. He did a wonderful Heart to Heart with me back in the
old CMT days and all the times I have visited with him since, the same
basic goodness was there. I don't hear a chorus of support for this
great artist from the current crop of Music biz=na=teers, a fellow
artist in trouble in the old days and we would have all rallied around
him, lifted him up, help carry him across the finish line. I know that
Randy has a strong faith, because we have talked about it, but something
has gotten ahold of him and is trying to defeat him. Lord, give my
friend the hand that can brush away all tears, all mistakes, all
embarrassment, all troubles that are too big for ourselves to handle,
lift him up, bursh him off and set him on a new path. He's a keeper
Lord, and You never practice catch and release....You keep us forever,
and ever..... Amen
