View From The River Bank- August 16, 2012

This Carriage House, built around 1800, belongs to Denise's family and sits on the hill overlooking the Upper Mississippi River just to the side of the house. It was originally part of the Fort Crawford complex that sat on this hill during the Indian Wars and the War of 1812. This area was the wild frontier and an important strategic stronghold against the British who were inciting the Indians to prey on the settlers and paying them a bounty on scalps.

Now, 212 years later, it is a monument to the grit and fortitude that drove the early Colonists to head West and push on to the land beyond the River, shaping America into the greatest Country that's ever been. Our RV is parked right next to the Carriage House and provides a backdrop of history for me to ponder as I drink my morning coffee and enjoy the 68 degree weather after the rain showers last night. I will post another picture (left), one taken in the middle of a Wisconsin Winter after this to show the beauty of the building.   -Stan
