View From The Front Porch- September, 7, 2012

Going through Kroger awhile ago, I noticed all the Halloween stuff already out for sale. Our little town of Pleasant Hope, Missouri was really a quiet place, just kinda bumping along at a very slow pace...yessir, real quiet place...well, there was that one Halloween in 1953 when we, err, them boys, stole an outhouse, put it on a pick up truck and carried it to school late that night, hooked it to the rope on the flag pole and pulled it all the way to the top, swaying in the wind. that same bunch of wild Ozark boys then took a manure spreader, full of the stuff, where someone had just cleaned out their barn but hadn't spread it yet, and somehow, it ended up on the front porch of the School Principals house, Mr. Keltner was his name, and I don't think he ever really got over it and carried a grudge until us boys left school for life on the outside. Yessir, Pleasant Hope was sure a quiet little town.......wonder how long the statue of limitations is for stealing outhouses and manure spreaders? Them dang mean boys.....  -Stan
