View From The Front Porch-Stan Hitchcock-December 2, 2012

Well, you just couldn't ask for a nicer weekend than the one we have just enjoyed. Friday and Saturday the old farm house was filled with the smell of baking cookies. Denise made her prizes for the Christmas Open House of Cragfont, the historic home where she has served for years on the Board of Directors. Sumner County is chock full of historic sites and she and I have a deep interest in the preservation of homes and sites for future generations to enjoy. Just about a mile and a half from Cragfont is Wynnewood, the wonderful old log stage coach inn where I started Heart to Heart in 1986, Wynnewood blew away in a tornado a few years back, but they have rebuilt it and I went by and enjoyed the visit. Denise worked all yesterday decorating Cragfont, with her friends, for Christmas Open House, and today she was acting as tour guide. Last night we attended another Historic Home Christmas Open House at Rosemont in Gallatin, seeing a lot of our friends and enjoying the Christmas caroling, so as you can see, we are certainly caught up on our Christmas Social Events.

It was a beautiful weekend to drive the old '57 Chevy Pickup, and spend a little time at Lowe's looking and wanting every tool I saw, but resisting the temptation, buying just a nice board and some screws for a project I am working on in my shop.

Weatherman says tomorrow is gonna be even nicer. Y'know we are gonna pay for these nice days soon. Early Church, at First Baptist, Gallatin, was very good, followed by our Sunday School class, with Ray Young teaching as only he can do, listening to the praises and prayer requests, as different ones opened up their hearts to all our special Spiritual brothers and sisters who make up our group. A good Church home is so important in these stressful times, keeping us all focused on God as the answer to whatever your needs might be.

Weekends like this prepare us for the workweek ahead, and reminds us how blessed we are to live in this area of Tennessee, where the water runs cold from the many springs, running down to the Cumberland River, the trees grow thick and sheltering, and the grass grows faster than you can cut it. Our home on the range is a place where seldom is heard, a discouraging word, the deer play, although the antelope all went West, and the skies are not cloudy all day, except when it clouds up and rains to water the flowers. Now, friends and neighbors, this country life is just hard to beat.   -Stan

It just occurred to me why this has been such a nice weekend.....I have not watched, nor listened, to any news of all the trouble in the World, who's fighting who, what politician is lyin
g now, or who killed who. It wasn't a planned thing, I just had other things to do and didn't think to turn it on. I seems that when you allow yourself to be bombarded with constant negatives.....your joy fades.

I am one that keeps up on news, in an almost constant manner, whether tv in my office, Sirius XM in my car, or on my computer. But, ya'know, the old '57 Chevy truck don't have no radio...I haven't had time to watch tv...and haven't been on the computer, most of the weekend. Boy, what a relief, the World could have crashed and I would have missed it.

The result is...I am going into the new week with a clean slate...fresh minded...upbeat...full of Faith, and I reckon the World probably got along fine without me for a weekend.
I know that I got along fine without it.  -Stan
