View From The Front Porch- June 17, 2012

Looking across our breakfast table and coal oil lamp on the front porch my bass boat is already hooked up and waiting to head North in a couple days for the Upper Mississippi River of Wisconsin. You that know me know that I live for this time each year, to journey to that beautiful spot on the banks of the Mississippi River and fish every day for a month, as I have done for the past 27 years of being married to my Wisconsin woman. It is a time of great family togetherness, as the Thornburg family gathers at the home place from across the country where they have gone in their careers, and now come home for special times with the mother of the clan, Marcella Thornburg, at 90 years young, still the leader of the pack. For me it is a special time, and an adventure with my friend Chuck Lawrence who goes up with me for a week each year and catches all the big fish while I take pictures of 'em, and brag on what a good fisherman he is....when really, I tell him right where to throw the bait and all he has to do is just reel them in...however, I will have to admit that when I throw in the same place, my fish are just a few inches smaller...wonder why that is? It is a great time of adventure in a fisherman's paradise and I can't wait to get started. I have had some great Father and Son times in Wisconsin, pheasant hunting with my sons Stan 2nd and Scott in the winter time, and fishing each summer with Scott. Stan 2nd hasn't had a chance to get up there in summer yet, but we're working on it. This is a day of Family, when Father's all realize just how blessed they are to have their family around, and to know that our Heavenly Father watches over all of us.                     -Stan
