View From The Upper Mississippi River- June 25, 2012

Well, it has been an adventure, just getting here. Left the old farm house last Wednesday in the RV pulling the bass boat. Hot as it usually is this time of year, but we rolled on across mid America doing mighty fine with country music on the XM radio and coffee in the go cup. Finally, about 8 PM we pulled into a favorite restaurant just outside Peoria, IL that we always enjoy, called Jubilee Restaurant. Had a good supper and about 9PM we headed back out on the interstate. I was driving about 70 mph when all of a sudden two rear dual tires on the right side of the RV blew like a stick of dynamite. I got the RV and boat over to the shoulder of the interstate with about 6 inches of space between us and the tractor trailers that were roaring by at 70 mph. I sat there for a minute to collect my self after the trauma and got my billfold out and found my Triple AAA Plus card that I have carried for 25 years for just such emergencies. I dialed the number and a woman answered and asked if she could help. I explained that I was broke down on the interstate, in great danger from the passing traffic and needed someone to come out and bring tires and service on my RV....when I said RV...she said, "You are in an RV?" Yes, I am and pulling my boat....she said, "Sorry, RV's are not covered...." CLICK .... as she disconnected. Now, I have carried Triple AAA roadside assistance for 25 years, being told that no matter what I was driving the would be there to help me. Wrong. My fishing buddy, Chuck Lowrance and I started called every place we could find for help....nothing....finally, I called my Automobile Insurance which covers the RV in Gallatin, TN...State Farm...the agents phone had a connection to a help line for State Farm. I have Roadside assistance on my RV policy...the good folks worked for a couple of hours but finally found someone to come out in a big truck and bring two new tires and mount them roadside. God bless State Farm, they came through big time. 5 hours later we were fixed up and back on the road. No damage to the RV or boat. I do have a big issue with the woman at Triple AAA...you folks mislead your customers when you say that whatever you are driving you are covered....Yeah, everything but RV's, but they fail to tell you that. And the CLICK as she disconnected and left me hanging is something I will not soon forget. God is good in all kind of situations and challenges and we are sitting on the banks of the Mississippi River in Wisconsin and it is cool and beautiful. I will put up some pictures as the days go by. -Stan
